The focus of this class will be on developing familiarity with sections of the TOEFL
(Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) and increasing English language and test-
taking skills required to improve TOEFL scores. By practicing test-taking skills,
TOEFL strategies, and a review of English grammar, students will increase their
readiness to take the TOEFL iBT. Students will take numerous practice tests and
systematically review the results of each.
RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
1. Teaching 4 in-person class hours weekly
2. Communicating with the program coordinator and IEP director
3. Providing extensive assistance and support for student questions regarding
the TOEFL test
4. Maintaining and submitting attendance reports on a weekly basis
5. Participating in staff meetings, as requested.
6. An option open to participate in program activities both inside and outside
the classroom (excursions, professional development, meals). This is
unpaid time.

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree in any field plus 3+ years experience (or the equivalent) teaching ESL to intermediate to advanced-level students at the secondary or post-secondary level.
Department Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree and ESL teaching experience at the high- school or higher ed level.
- Familiarity with format, strategies, and teaching methodologies used for teaching a TOEFL preparation course.
- Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
- Experience working with a diverse, multicultural student population.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Master’s degree or Certificate in TESOL
- Current knowledge of issues/concerns relevant to the ESL field and TOEFL test
- Excellent spoken and written English, extensive knowledge of English grammar and ESL writing.
- Knowledge of Middle Eastern culture and/or experience teaching international students highly preferred
