The Communications Manager is responsible for implementing Atlanta Humane’s brand voice, overseeing media relations, and assisting with branding projects. This individual will be the organization’s main copywriter, crafting engaging and sharp writing utilizing Atlanta Humane’s brand voice. They will work with organizational stakeholders to ensure the brand voice is consistent on key channels and be the lead copy editor on materials from across the organization. This person will be the organization’s media contact, engaging with local and national media to raise awareness of our mission, acting as a spokesperson when needed. Additionally, this person will work closely with other marketing and communications team members to build and implement brand awareness strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Write copy for marketing projects including blogs, resource handouts, newsletters, and event invites
- Support donor engagement by creating copy for items such as donor acknowledgements, grant stories, and donor story reports
- Provide final proofing to key materials and assist with copyediting when needed
- Write press releases, manage media relationships, and provide media interviews
- Oversee the volunteer animal biography writing program and volunteer blog writers
- Work with the digital team for brand voice consistency on our digital platforms
- Draft talking points for events or speaking engagements and create supporting PowerPoint presentations as needed
- Utilize organizational strategy to help implement the team’s communications strategy
- Lead brand awareness projects and the project management associated with brand changes
- Provide general marketing support as needed on special marketing projects
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or a related field
- 3-5 years experience in marketing and copywriting
- General understanding of public relations
- Demonstrated writing and typing skills
- Experience in brand management
- Ability to write for a variety of stakeholders and craft creative content under deadlines
- Understanding of SEO or willingness to learn
- Excellent writer, proofreader, and communicator with a keen eye for detail
- Self-motivated individual who will thrive in a team-oriented environment where work is fast-paced
- Ability to proactively recognize needs, balance multiple projects, manage daily workload, and prioritize tasks
- Must be able to work flexible hours. Some evenings and weekends
