The Cornea Genetics and Regeneration Laboratory at the Shiley Eye Institute, University of California, San Diego, is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is currently seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Associate Project Scientist. This role offers a unique opportunity for an individual with a passion for advancing our understanding of basic corneal genetics, regeneration and biology, as well as translating research findings into clinical applications.
The successful candidate will
- be expected to conduct basic and translational research to uncover and characterize genetic factors underlying inherited corneal disorders, with a focus on corneal dystrophies
- utilize established and innovative methodologies, including cell-based techniques, to investigate corneal biology and disease mechanisms
- work with primary and immortalized corneal endothelial cells, epithelial cells, human iPSC-derived corneal cells, and animal models to conduct in vivo experiments
- collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate clinical insights with fundamental scientific research.
- manage research activities, including supervision of post-docs, research staff, and student researchers.
Appointment will be at the Associate level in the Project Scientist series.

Candidates must have a PhD in Biological Sciences.
Candidates must have a minimum of six years of laboratory experience.
Candidates must have a minimum of ten publications.
Candidates must have a minimum of six years of research experience.
Candidates with experience with corneal imaging, molecular biological methods, protein analysis techniques (e.g., western blotting, immunohistochemistry, ELISA), image analysis, and confocal microscopy are preferred.
Candidates with bioinformatics analysis skills are preferred.
Candidates with laboratory experience in cornea genetics are preferred.
