Description

The SUNY Corning Community College Business & Accounting Department seeks trained accountants and/or financial professionals to teach courses in Accounting and Business for the 2024-2025 Academic year (August 26, 2024-May 17, 2025). Instructors are responsible for teaching a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing material for the classes, grading assignments submitted in connection with the classes, holding an office hour for each course taught to assist students as needed. The course may be in-person live, asynchronous on-line, or synchronous on-line, depending on the needs of the department. While course materials are provided, visiting instructors are expected to update and organize the material as needed. Visiting instructors may be required to attend occasional meetings. A Bachelors in Accounting with a Master’s in Business, Accounting or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with a Bachelors in Business will be considered if they have had coursework in intermediate accounting and a Master’s in Business or if they have a Masters in Accounting. Some teaching experience at the Community College level is preferred.

Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required

Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing

Essential Functions

Teaching Duties (60%)
  • Maintain current course content and up-to-date teaching methods.
  • At the start of the semester, provide students with a course outline and requirements for fulfilling the objectives of the course. This should include information about grading policies, class attendance policy, research projects and/or term paper requirements, and the nature of quizzes and examinations.
  • Be responsible for assuring accuracy of course content as defined in the catalogue.
  • Meet classes as scheduled and dismiss each class promptly.
  • Teach at off-campus locations, if need arises.

Advising Duties (20%)
  • Post and maintain regular and reasonable office hours.
  • Refer students to appropriate college services for specialized assistance.
  • Write recommendations for students who need references for work or for transfer to another college.
  • If requested and if schedule permits, serve as an advisor to a student organization.

Committee Services (15%)
  • Attend graduation exercises, unless formally excused by the Associate Dean of Instruction and the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Become involved in, and contribute to, the improvement of the College and its community through such services as sponsorship of forums, seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Participate in all College-wide workshops and fall and spring start-up programs unless excused by the division chair and the Dean of Academic Affairs.

Other duties as assigned (5%)
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Instruction of the Liberal Arts and Professional Studies Division.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in team environment.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere among students, faculty, and staff.
  • A strong working knowledge of financial accounting, managerial accounting, and business application of these subjects.
  • A strong technology proficiency, experience with Banner, Bright Space, and textbook applications is preferred.
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
  • Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors

Minimum Qualifications

Some teaching experience.
  • Bachelors in Business with coursework in intermediate accounting and a Master’s in Business or Masters in Accounting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recent work experience as an accountant or in a financial field is highly desired.
  • A Bachelors in Accounting with a Master’s in Business, Accounting or a related field.
  • Teaching experience at a Community College
