Full job description

Program Specialists prepare youth for success by creating an environment that facilitates the achievement of Boys & Girls Clubs’ youth development outcomes. This work is accomplished by promoting participation in clubhouse programs, providing guidance, and role modeling to members.

Sports, Fitness, & Recreation Specialists: help young people develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.

Education and Career Development Program Specialist: is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a broad range of programs in the Boys & Girls Club Core Program Area of Education and Career Development within a designated Club.

The Arts and Cultural Enrichment Specialists: enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, crafts, performing arts and creative writing.

Technology Specialists: present technology programming that encompasses all of our core areas including Character and Leadership, Arts and Cultural Enrichment, Health and Life Skills, Sports, Fitness, and Recreation, and Education.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided in within a specific program area, such as Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Arts & Crafts, and Physical Education.

Program Development and Implementation

Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors.

Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports.

Supervision

Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
-High School Diploma or GED
-Negative TB test
-Background check clearance

KNOWLEDGE
The Program Specialist must have a demonstrated knowledge of youth development, safe and appropriate activities for youth, and understanding of the culture and community in which the clubhouse is located.

Project Management (Able to plan, implement, and supervise safe, quality programs for youth)

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

May participate in special programs and/or events.

May be required to drive Club van.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent standing and walking; occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds of school supplies or recreational equipment waist height); hear and understand speech at normal levels; and speak so that others may understand at normal levels.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Boys & Girls Clubs are often stressful, busy, and noisy environments. Program Specialists are expected to work in situations where many member and facilities related activities take place at the same time.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 27 per week

  • Experience with Children: 1 year (Preferred)
