GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the Chief Academic Officer of the College, the Vice President provides leadership and direction to the academic departments, academic support services, and the workforce development programs enhancing the success of students in achieving their goals. The position oversees the Deans of the following: Arts, Humanities and Adult Education; Health Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Human Services, Business and Advanced Studies; and, Math, Science and Applied Engineering Technology. The Vice President also oversees Wilkens Library & Center for Information Literacy; the Center for Corporate and Professional Education, the Commonwealth Honors Program; and Grants Administration.

This position serves as a member of the President's Cabinet, regularly provides academic status reports to the Board of Trustees, and is involved in policy development and implementation. Working collaboratively in a union environment, the VP is a leader in strategic planning, monitoring our strategic goals to ensure mission-focus and vision achievement. The VP will foster collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and external communities promoting student success through best practices, current research, evaluation and assessment, continuous improvement, and student success strategics. Other responsibilities include a leadership role ensuring the College's adherence to NECHE's Standards of Accreditation and on-going reporting and reaccreditation requirements, collaborating in the analyses of programs and services, administrative policy management, and grant administrative management. The Vice President will represent the College on statewide academic and student affairs matters.

In addition to having the demonstrated knowledge, experience, and ability to plan, monitor, evaluate, supervise and provide collaborative leadership for Academic and Student Affairs, the successful candidate must exemplify a high degree of integrity, be solutions-focused with an entrepreneurial spirit to navigate and manage prudently to enhance a student-centered, diverse and collaborative College community and its mission.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership for academic, workforce development, and continuing education aligned with the vision and mission of the College.
  • Advise the President in formulating overall plans, policies, and procedures for the achievement of the College's goals.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and monitoring the College's strategic plan, particularly in areas related to student success, program evaluation, allocation of financial resources, curricular change, staff development, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Provide leadership and development creating a strong integrated team focused on quality instruction and academic support.
  • Supervise and evaluate the deans within academic affairs, and all other direct reports for the areas including CCAPE, library services, and grants administration.
  • Serve on the President's Cabinet, Leadership Council, and other committees as assigned; represents the President and the College in a variety of settings as required.
  • Promote and ensure collegial shared governance.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of collective bargaining agreements in leading academic affairs.
  • Oversee college governance committees, including curriculum oversight.
  • Inspire innovation in academic services and continued professional development of faculty and staff.
  • Promote the alignment of instruction, workforce development, and continuing education and student affairs through the supervision of staff overseeing the academic divisions and workforce development and continuing education programs.
  • Maintain an environment of collegiality, collaboration, and shared ownership for the success of the College's students, faculty, and staff, and the institution as a whole.
  • Empower an inclusive and welcoming environment committed to achieving a diverse faculty and staff through recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Ensures compliance with College policies and procedures, and contracts as well as with all regulatory and accrediting agencies/associations.
  • Maintain a collegial working relationship with union leadership and knowledge of the union environment and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ensure implementation of institutional academic policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation of the College Catalog, College Calendar, semester course schedules, Student Handbook, and related publications in conjunction with designated personnel.
  • Work with deans, faculty, and staff to develop, implement, and refine an assessment model for all academic programs and student affairs services in order to provide a rich and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain communication with counterparts across the Massachusetts Community Colleges as well as with other post-secondary institutions and community leaders.
  • Oversee all credit-bearing and workforce development programs and courses, including the selection and evaluation of faculty, and recommendations regarding staffing levels of academic affairs.
  • Ensure that the academic affairs operations of extension sites are in accordance with the requirements of all appropriate agencies and governmental bodies.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Earned doctorate or ABD with degree in progress.
  • Five years of college-level leadership experience, which includes academic affairs administrative experience at the Dean level, preferably in a public, two-year institution.
  • Full-time teaching experience in a two-year institution.
  • Proven impact assessing and advancing equitable student success systematically.
  • Experience with virtual, online, and hyflex modalities of learning.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Successful experience with attaining, implementing, managing, and reporting activities related to grant-funded projects.
  • Successful record of academic leadership.
  • Successful record of accreditation leadership.
  • Proven ability to make data-informed decisions that drive strategic objectives.
  • Experience and understanding in delivering, assessing, and integrating technically supported systems and services such as advising, tutoring, career, and transfer services to enhance the academic experience and increase student success.
  • Experience linking strategic planning with budgeting.
  • A strong and demonstrated commitment to the Mission and the philosophy of the College.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in oral and written expression.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the employment and development of an ethnically and culturally diverse staff, and the recruitment and retention of an ethnically and culturally diverse student body.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ten years of transformative, inclusive, and collaborative academic affairs leadership, with demonstrated success in developing and implementing effective and forward-thinking programs, initiatives, and platforms in a public higher education environment.
  • Distinguished record of higher education research, scholarship/presentations on leadership and/or student success.

Additional Information:


COMPENSATION
: Annual salary range of $170,000 - $195,000 (dependent upon qualifications). Full-time, Non-Unit Professional position that includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program.
