Job Description
Facilities is seeking applicants for Maintainer II positions on a rolling basis. Maintainers perform routine maintenance and provide custodial services to buildings and grounds, including the repair or beautification of campus grounds or roads, such as cutting grass, weeds or brush; cleaning culverts, gutters, catch-basins, drains or ditches; loading and unloading vehicles; moving and setting up furniture; spreading sand, gravel, loam or asphalt; digging ditches or post-holes; setting or pulling posts; repairing guardrails or fences; patching concrete or asphalt surfaces; maintaining, erecting or repairing signs; cleaning or marking roadways for parking lots; erecting or dismantling snow fences; painting fences, posts, guardrails or building exteriors; and performs other related work as necessary.
Shift, Days Off and Meal Break: TBD by shift bidding process; subject to change according to departmental needs.
Salary: $42,764.02 annually/$822.77 bi-weekly

- Supervises and participates in the maintenance of buildings and grounds providing custodial and grounds services
- Provides on-the-job training (OJT) to employees
- Participates in snow removal; spreads salt and sand on roads and walks
- Cuts grass, prunes shrubs and trees, sweeps sidewalks and disposes of debris
- Cleans campus property such as offices, classrooms, corridors, walls and floors by washing, sweeping, and vacuuming, etc.
- Locks and unlocks premises, reports any hazardous and unusual situations
- Operates power driven equipment, tractors, trimmers, buffers, or other similar equipment; drives truck
- Prepares written reports of work performed
- Inspects interiors of buildings for cleanliness and takes corrective action as needed
- Issues supplies and equipment as needed in the performance of custodial or grounds work
- Will be assigned as essential emergency personnel and snow removal
- Participates in the propagation, growth and care of flowers, plants, and shrubs; seeds and fertilizes; sprays lawns, shrubs, plants and flowers
- Cleans, washes, and refuels power equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, trucks, chainsaws, etc.
- Performs manual labor such as loading and unloading freight and materials and storing to proper location. Takes inventories and distributes supplies as related to grounds and custodial department
- Makes general repairs of a simple nature to custodial and grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, buffers, etc.
- Maintains records such as inventory and maintenance; records hours worked
- Requisitions required supplies or equipment; approves charges for supplies; maintains inventory of supplies or equipment and issues them to staff as required
- Inspects equipment for wear and tear; prepares work orders.
- Performs department and office moves when necessary. This will consist of moving furniture, items and boxes.
- Participate in event set ups which includes but not limited to moving of tables, chairs and other event management functions.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
- One year full-time or equivalent part-time experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping work; or in landscaping, grounds keeping, park maintenance or tree maintenance work.
- The ability to read, write, and converse in English in order to read and understand product label instructions, policies and procedures, and to effectively discuss custodial matters with supervisors and others.
License/Certifications Required:
- A valid Massachusetts Class D Vehicle Operator's license.
Working Conditions:
This is an on-site, in-person position which requires the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects (50 lbs.) without assistance.
Maintainers stand and walk for prolonged periods of time; lift and carry heavy objects; work outdoors in all types of weather; work varied shifts, weekends, holidays or nights; are exposed to the hazard of wet, slippery floors; work under exposure to the hazards to chemicals, toxic and noxious fumes, dust, excessive heat, high noise levels, high volume traffic conditions and high voltage wires; work from ladders and scaffolds; and may be required to climb trees and operate motor vehicles.
