As the HR Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our human resources strategy and fostering a positive, rewarding work environment. You will oversee all aspects of HR operations, ensuring that we attract, develop, and retain a diverse and talented workforce to serve our community. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our team thrives.

  • Working with the senior leadership team, defines systems, processes and programs, including organizational communication processes, that create a vibrant cause-centered culture for staff in accordance with the values of the Y.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the organization, aligning organizational structure and HR systems and processes to achieve goals.
  • Responsible for the development and effectiveness of performance management and appraisal programs.
  • Ensure compensation and benefit programs are competitive, align with the Y’s mission, provide value to employees, are compliant with laws and plan designs and are communicated well throughout the organization. Responsibilities include job description and classification, salary structure and salary adjustments, benefit plan design and communication, benefit enrollment and administration.
  • Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to ensure that the Penobscot Bay YMCA is attracting and retaining the best employees. Identifies and cultivates appropriate and effective sources for candidates for all levels of jobs.
  • Responsible for creating development programs for all employees at the Y so that each employee is able to gain the skills required to do their job at the highest level and to grow in their career.
  • Remains current with employment laws and regulations. Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources and manages relationships with compliance agencies and YMCA legal counsel. Ensures timely and accurate submission of data requested by the EEOC, YMCA of the USA, Department of Labor, etc.
  • Develop, manage and maintain an effective payroll and personnel records system to meet YMCA reporting requirements and applicable legal requirements.
  • Monitor the unemployment insurance and worker compensation programs, responding appropriately to specific insurance claims and issues. Monitor Occurrence/Accident Reporting & Claims.
  • Perform other duties necessary for the good of the organization.
Requirements:

 


The ideal candidate will have:

  • The highest degree of ethics and trustworthiness.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources or equivalent.
  • Four or more years of professional experience in all aspects of human resources management and staff development and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and professional experience in planning and policy, talent management, selection, compensation, benefits, training and staff development, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Experience in data entry with working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing. Attention to detail and experience with payroll.
  • Strong customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proficiency in business and human resources related computer applications, which may include talent management systems, time and attendance systems, etc.
