Location: This position will be posted at DOT Lake, Alaska. (Housing may be available.)


 

Who We Are Seeking: The CVTC Tribal Police Department has an Inter-Tribal Governmental agreement with the Dot Lake Native Village. We are seeking a motivated professional with prior POST or Alaska Police Standards Council Academy training and at least one year of patrol experience, preferably in rural Alaskan communities or with a background in military policing. As a Tribal Police Officer (TPO), you will be part of a team of full-time TPOs dedicated to enforcing Tribal and federal laws. TPOs respond to service calls, assist elders and other vulnerable individuals, and investigate crimes. They are primarily responsible for preventing crime, upholding laws, and protecting the public through patrolling assigned areas and completing tasks assigned by their supervisor. Additionally, TPOs actively participate in community safety and crime prevention programs.


 

Additional Responsibilities: Follow standard operating procedures to observe and respond to various situations or emergencies; complete case work and produce internal reports; foster public relationships and liaise with emergency services, community groups and individuals; attend and provide evidence in court upon request; and participate in CVTC and Dot Lake meetings, trainings, and events.


 

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • 1 + year of police experience is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and leadership skills; including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Superb verbal and technical written communication skills.
  • Ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

 

Certificates and Licenses Required: A valid Alaska Driver’s license is required for this position and the ability to be insured on CVTC’s vehicle insurance policy.


 

Drug Test and Background Check: This position requires you to complete and pass: a pre-employment state and federal background check, pre-employment drug screening, criminal investigative background check, psychological evaluation, polygraph and fit for duty exam as a condition of employment.


 

Hiring Preferences: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Native and American Indian peoples. CVTC also applies family and local hiring preferences.
