Job Summary

The position directly supports the mission by planning and coordinating the STEM tutoring center, which includes partnering with programs that deliver tutoring services with the teaching and learning center, to deliver study skills support for students. The position supports the goals and objectives of the program by providing, obtaining and/or coordinating activities at the district level.

Essential Functions

 

  • Developing and establishing procedures to implement new programs and/or activities; formulate and develop new program policies and practices. Review program and recommend changes and modifications and expansion with appropriate documentation and analysis. Interpret, advise and implement policies and procedures, daily administration of the tutor center.
  • Develop cost estimates and plan and project future program needs: develop budget requests or revisions and grant or contract proposals. Prepare budget requests for dean approval and provide advice and information; review income/expense, statistical, and budget status reports and advise on financial status of programs and of problem areas. Review estimates, expenditures, and progress reports and authorize budget requests and revisions; analyze problem areas and recommend and take corrective action with the assistance of the dean’s office.
  • Prepare and maintain administrative and business reports and records or may supervise staff engaged in these tasks.  Prepare and maintain administrative and business reports and records or may supervise staff engaged in these tasks.  Direct and recruit tutors and match tutors with students. Manage personnel decisions in consultation with Dean.????
  • Represent the dean occasionally in matters related to learning support services in daily business, at staff or college meetings, and at meetings or conferences with the public. Integrate tutoring program into college’s learning support services via marketing, collaboration and other means.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Math education, Math-related field, Science (such as Chemistry, Biology or Physics) or other bachelor’s degree. Successful completion of math courses through calculus. Two or more years’ professional experience in a peer-tutoring academic support center
  • Minimum of two years as an employee of a secondary or higher education institution as an instructor or academic support staff
  • Ability to manage multiple demands for time and adapt to changing needs  
  • Ability to work independently and as a dynamic team member and leader  
  • Demonstrated experience recognizing and supporting the needs of students with diverse identities and abilities  
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication  
  • Experience with data collection and assessment  
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years’ experience managing a multi-discipline academic support center
  • Supervisory experience with students and/or staff  
  • Experience managing an annual program budget
  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant teaching theories, pedagogies and best practices in math and science education 
  • Experience developing and implementing a data collection plan that assess the effectiveness of a program
  • Familiarity with online math homework for math classes 
  • Familiarity with online learning management, such as Canvas
  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

  • Demonstrated ability to use exceptional communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating professionalism, empathy, diplomacy, discretion and integrity in interactions with diverse constituencies.
  • High level of proficiency and accuracy in software packages including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Quality: Accurate and thorough, prepare detailed reports, evaluate processes to identify ways to improve and promote quality.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:
The current vacancy in the math center is a 25-hour (62.5% of full time) per week, overtime and benefit eligible 10-month cyclic position expected to begin as soon as possible. (cyclic leave breaks to be determined by the supervisor) The prorated starting salary is $29,625 annually with periodic increases and earning potential to $34,381. The list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of three months and be used to fill this position only.

Work Schedule & Environment:

  • Work hours are generally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; hours and days may change depending on the needs of the college. Work in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
