Berkshire Community College (BCC) has the distinction of being the first community college established in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President for Administration & Finance/CFO, the Director of Grants Development and Administration leads a comprehensive grants program to support faculty and staff initiatives across all disciplines. This role aligns institutional priorities with strategic vision and external funding opportunities, identifying funding needs, cultivating relationships with funders, and developing strategies to secure external funding from federal, state and private foundations.

Position is offered as fully remote.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Grant Administration

  • Lead a responsive and comprehensive grants program to support faculty and staff across all departments and disciplines.
  • Collaborate campus-wide to align faculty priorities with the president's vision, state priorities, and the college's strategic plan to identify critical needs, target opportunities, set goals, and develop resource-building strategies.
  • Assist faculty and staff in securing external funding for individual, departmental, and interdisciplinary programs and projects.
  • Maintain and market a clearinghouse for information on funding opportunities.
  • Keep abreast of funder policies and program changes.
  • Oversee the development of the grant prospect list and foster relationships with institutional grant funders.
  • Advise BCC's Executive Council on grant opportunities and potential concerns regarding implementation.

 

Grant Research and Proposal Development

  • Research and disseminate relevant grant opportunities, present them to colleagues, and facilitate planning discussions.
  • Lead the grant writing process for institutional proposals, coordinating with relevant departments and developing project budgets and timelines.
  • Work with faculty/staff to develop programmatic aspects of grant proposals.
  • Assist in data collection and statistics for grant proposals in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Strategize with staff on prioritizing grant applications.
  • Monitor the status of submitted proposals and provide tracking and follow-up.

 

Coordination and Compliance

  • Ensure coordination between Institutional Advancement and proposed grant requests to avoid conflicts.
  • Serve as a liaison between grant recipients and the Business Office for accounting and reporting, ensuring full utilization of funds.
  • Maintain the central repository for all grant records.
  • Provide training on grant development, management and compliance to faculty and staff.
  • Stay updated on federal and state laws, OMB Circulars, EDGAR regulations, and program regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Develop case statements, letters of inquiry, and other correspondence to grant organizations.
  • Update the Grant Management Handbook as needed.

 

Funder Cultivation and Support

  • Work collaboratively with other institutions, businesses, organizations, and governments to increase funding opportunities and the college's visibility.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to transform ideas into grant applications, organize teams, and lead submission processes.
  • Prepare supporting documents, including letters of support, MOUs, MOAs etc. with partners.
  • Oversee grant project implementation and provide support to grant managers for compliance tasks.
  • Maintain grant record keeping to ensure adherence to college policies and funder regulations.

 


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Substantial experience (5 years +) writing federal, state, and private grants, preferably in a non-profit or higher education setting
  • Demonstrated successful track record in securing grant funding. Knowledge of federal and state grant funding sources and processes. Higher education experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of federal state, and private funding sources and processes.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and organizational skills and experience.
  • Ability and experience in providing technical assistance in grant management processes. Ability and experience in in developing complex project budgets, coordination, and monitoring.
  • Ability and experience working with senior-level administrators to identify, develop, and analyze grant opportunities. Demonstrated ability to use office productivity software.
