Title: Reference Librarian (Contract part-time)

Pay Rate: $22.34/hr
Work Hours: The Reference Librarian provides evening and weekend reference desk coverage, scheduled 30 hours per week and will be assigned hours during the window of 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Monday – Thursday, and 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Saturdays.
Position Summary: The Reference Librarian participates in reference services, creating tutorials, library instruction, and other duties as assigned. The position reports to the Instruction Coordinator and Reference Librarian.
Duties and Responsibilities:
65% Provide individual reference service and group information literacy instruction, both in-person and online. Reference services are available in-person and via phone, email, text, chat, and appointment. In support of instruction services, collaborate with the Instruction Coordinator and Reference Librarian on various projects to support the library instruction program.
30% Participate in the ongoing development and maintenance of the library’s web services, including the LibGuides, FAQs, and online tutorials, using various applications, including LibApps, PowerPoint, Camtasia, Snagit, Zoom, and related software. Seek out and implement appropriate emerging technologies.
5% Maintain knowledge of current professional library practices, including reference interviewing and teaching practices. May be involved with collection development activities.

Required Qualifications:
MLS Degree from an ALA-accredited college or university.
Knowledgeable in providing reference services to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Knowledgeable in use of current web authoring tools and standards.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required.
Non-Essential Functions:
Perform other duties and special projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the library’s reference and instruction function, including knowledge of specialized searching skills and strategies, familiarity with the library’s print and electronic collections, and the ability to translate those resources effectively to students, faculty, staff, and other patrons in a variety of delivery modes, including in-person, virtual reference, via tutorials, in class, and graded course components.
Willingness and social skills necessary to work effectively with students, faculty, and other patrons of varying skill and interest levels.
Ability to provide highly detailed work.
Ability to design and deliver instruction in the use of library resources in individual and group settings and for placement on library website, in campus course management system, in forms of graded assignments, tutorials, and subject guides.
Proficiency with web and media design tools, software, and systems, including discovery search systems, LibApps, Microsoft Office, Camtasia, SnagIt, Zoom, Adobe Creative Suite, and HTML.
Willingness and ability to learn new software and instruct students, faculty, staff, and other patrons on use of software as needed. Ability to troubleshoot technology software and hardware.
Equipment:
Using PC-based and online databases and programs, scanners, phone, photocopier, and printers is required.
