Financial Analyst, Senior

Your Role

The Specialty Benefits (Dental, Vision and Life) products serve over 800K members across various lines of business, generating over $25M in revenue annually. The Senior Financial Analyst will report to the Sr. Manager, Finance Analytics. In this role you will be responsible for monthly membership close deliverables which includes analysis, reporting, forecasting and summarizing membership data. You will also build and maintain multiple databases to produce monthly and ad hoc reports. You will also collaborate with key stakeholders (actuarial, accounting, underwriting, enterprise finance and sales) to identify opportunities to improve financial and membership performance.

Your Work

In this role, you will:

  • Review, monitor and analyze monthly membership and financials to ensure accuracy and correct any issue with data. Compare results versus target, plan, and forecast
  • Perform quarterly financial and membership forecasts as well as projections for long term financial performance of the business
  • Research and respond to timely and accurately to customer (internal and external) inquiries
  • Create, maintain, and manipulate various databases to create meaningful tools for data analysis
  • Identifies business process opportunities, test solutions, and revises desk level procedures to reflect changes. Identify opportunities to automate/digitize processes
  • Summarize and present complex financial information to leadership
  • Summarize detailed revenue and expense data and compare summarized claim data against fee schedules and contracts
  • Collect and evaluate data, develop, and maintain financial models, analyze results and conduct scenario analyses to forecast balance sheet, cash flow and regulatory capital
  • Follow and conduct audit processes and review internal controls to ensure financial transactions are accurate, timely and comply with accounting standards, principles and company policy
  • Provide policy guidance and interpretation to ensure financial records are consistent and comply with company policies and GAAP

Your Knowledge and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Requires at least 5 years of prior relevant experience
  • Requires advanced Office skills (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • SAS and Hyperion Essbase experience preferred
  • Basic SQL/Tableau experience preferred
  • Requires ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Requires strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to explain complex analytical data simply and connect them to business results for different audiences

Pay Range: The pay range for this role is $87,230.00 to $130,900.00 for California.

Note: Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
