Head Coaches
Job Description
Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Overtime is required and may include weekends and holidays
Basic Function: Ensure that all regulations guidelines that pertain to our conference and NCAA affiliation are met. Direct and develop all aspects of the programs compliance and eligibility program.
Essential Function: Assist with developing and implementing specific athletic programs; direct and coordinate a full range of athletic department services and programs. Ensure compliance with NCAA regulations and college policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Represent Benedict College in a Positive Manner Promote and Support Benedict College and its Mission
Promote and Support Benedict College Athletics Department’s Mission Be knowledgeable of NCAA rules and regulations
Prepares and manages budget
Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment
Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Athletic Director Organizes and conducts practice sessions
Recruits student-athletes
Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc.
Works with the Sports Information Director regarding team pictures, publicity, and newsletters Works with the Athletic Director on scheduling
Recommends athletes for awards
Furnishes NCAA information regarding team roster, eligibility, etc. to the Athletic Director Maintains a thorough knowledge of NCAA, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Institutional rules and complies accordingly
Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes Responsible for other details or any other assignment by the Athletic Director
Works with the Athletic Trainer to facilitate treatment of athletes and stay abreast of athletic injuries.
Collateral responsibilities
Participation in fundraising activities Acceptance of service on college committees
Membership and participation in professional organizations Attendance at convocations, graduations, etc. if at all possible
Pre-Season Responsibilities
Provide a Roster of student athletes to the Compliance Office prior to beginning practice.
Provide Prospective student athlete with Physicals
Provide Emergency Locator Forms to student athlete
Provide a List of your Coaching Expectations (Team Rules) to Athletic Department Office and student athletes prior to the first meeting
Provide a List of Team Rules and Violation Consequences
Provide your Requirements to earn a Scholarship Letter to the Athletic Department Office and Student Athlete
Provide Scholarship Letter requirements with their student athletes
Provide a Roster for program to Sport Information Department
Provide a List of Assistants, Student and Volunteer coaches Bio to the Athletic Department.
Attend NCAA/ SIAC Rules and Interpretation Meetings.
Prepare to take the NCAA Rules Recruiting Examination by the assigned date
Provide student athlete with Pre-Season Conditioning and Strength Workout Programs
Remain knowledgeable of any major changes in NCAA and SIAC rules and interpretations.
Advise coaches and athletes of all rule changes.
Stay up-to-date on the NCAA Manual.
Keep a log of rules and interpretations asked by coaches and staff.
Work closely with-the Athletic Director and Faculty Athletics Representative on any question or problem with NCAA rules and interpretation.
Coordinate with NCAA office on questions we cannot find answers to.
Provide an orientation session for new coaches.
Conduct rules education at weekly and monthly staff meetings.
Oversee the documentation and compliance of all recruiting efforts.
Coordinate all initial eligibility through the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Serve as liaison to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on rules/regulations.
Maintain NCAA Compliance Assistant Internet Software and Benedict’s student-athlete database.
Conduct weekly audits of all coaches involved in the recruitment of student-athletes.
Collect all weekly 20-hour timesheets, monthly contact and evaluation forms, and all official visit documentation.
Communicate with admissions on application/acceptance/deposit status of incoming student athletes.
Process all National Letter of Intent and scholarship packets.
Submit all incoming freshmen student-athletes to the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Develops and revises the compliance manual and student-athlete handbook as necessary.
Travel for administrative work is expected.
Assists with the preparation of squad lists and other institutional, conference and NCAA forms.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Job Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred. At least 5 years post collegiate experience in Division II Compliance or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in Athletic Compliance Office preferred.
Supervision: Works under the general supervision of the Director of Athletics, Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director/SWA.
