HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Executive Communications Writer writes organizational communications in support of the brand and mission. This role works closely with the Executive Office on internal communications. This position reports to Senior Manager of Internal and Executive Communications.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Strategize and write targeted executive communications for internal and external audiences, including short- and long-form written communications, presentations, video scripts, social posts, OpEds, etc.
  • Manage a variety of written communication needs in support of the entire executive team, including the executive directors of the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park
  • Create a variety of scripts and presentation materials to support internal and external company events, including quarterly all-staff meetings, executive speaking opportunities and conferences, press conferences, etc.
  • Identify relevant speakers from within the organization for a multitude of philanthropic events, community events, etc., and prepare the associated presentations to support each event.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Communications in researching, writing, editing, and maintaining a database of remarks, and preparing speeches and presentations that will be delivered by leadership as needed to internal and external audiences.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of executive social media channels with relevant, on brand news, information and features about the organization, our mission and conservation work, and our involvement in the communities we serve.
  • Assist with the determination of topics, themes, and messages that will appropriately reflect San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's brand voice, accomplishments and goals. Provides input on communication strategies, long-range planning and strategic initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Build partnerships with a broad range of cross-functional stakeholders to develop, document, and consistently execute protocols to guide external messaging and delivery. This includes Internal Communications; Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Philanthropy Communications; Corporate Communications; Social Media, and more.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a seasoned communicator and speechwriter with a proven ability to craft compelling narratives and write for different executive voices. You should be adept at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while aligning communications with our brand voice and mission. Experience in a mission-driven organization or a background in conservation is a plus. Success in this role requires strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships across departments.

  • JOB EXPERIENCE
    • Three to five years previous work experience in communications, and/or public/media relations required.

  • EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field required.

  • SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required.
    • Strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple demanding initiatives concurrently required.
    • Excellent problem-solving ability and decision-making judgment required.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with a strong sense of urgency, a high degree of initiative, and the ability to support and participate in cross-functional projects and teams required.
    • Must demonstrate a high level of professional integrity and confidentiality and the ability to handle sensitive issues and situations with poise and emotional maturity required.
    • Must be a strong team player with the ability to work comfortably with people of diverse skills, levels, experience, and personalities.
    • The ability to work comfortably in a highly dynamic, fast-paced corporate environment where a high degree of flexibility is required.
    • Excellent computer skills and the ability to use technology to ensure consistent and constant communications required.

IMPORTANT DETAILS

  • Position Type: Hourly Full-Time Exempt Position
  • Salary Range: $71,200 to $78,760
