Annual Salary: $230,000 - $250,000 DOE/DOQ


Candidates with a California Professional Engineer (PE) license will receive additional compensation above the offered salary.

The County of San Diego, California, is seeking a visionary leader for their new Director of Public Works to develop and guide team and department operations with strategy, innovation, and fairness. This is a very attractive executive position, with a substantial relocation bonus.


This Director will make a lasting impact on our team and in our unincorporated community in alignment with the Department's Strategic Plan, focusing on collaborative partnerships, transformative change, resilient projects and communities, and inspired and growth-oriented teams. They will lead a dynamic Department of Public Works with 660 positions and a budget of approximately $481 million. This role requires a steadfast leader who is willing to connect with all levels of the team and organization to foster a sense of community, and embody the value of service before self. They will demonstrate extensive prior experience in executive leadership in multiple public works programs, ideally leading a large and diverse department. They will also demonstrate a proven ability to foster and drive community and stakeholder engagement to provide quality services, while ensuring departmental efficiency.
