Job Description

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Lightwave Avenue and remote after initial onboarding.

DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Oncology Call Center Supervisor, the Call Center Specialist is responsible for coverage as needed in all areas, including Clinical Care Coordinator desks, Call Center, and all Moores clinic areas in La Jolla, Hillcrest, and North County locations. The scope encompasses greeting patients, check-in and check-out procedures, and appointment scheduling for various Cancer Center areas including, but not limited to, the Moores Multi-Specialty Clinics, Koman Outpatient Pavilion, Hillcrest, Infusion Cancer, Fast Track, MRI, Imaging, and Laboratory Services. Conducts registration, insurance, and authorization verification; updates patient demographics, disposition appointments, and co-pay collection; manages/monitors petty cash (cash drawer); expedites reports; works closely with physicians, nurses, staff, and other UCSD departments, and staff.

Call Center Specialist coverage is responsible for typical duties, including customer service, answering multi-line incoming calls, completing the online registration, insurance verification, scheduling appointments, securing authorization for scheduled services, and expediting Epic orders by routed referrals through the MUC work queue.

Clinical Care Coordinator coverage includes covering desk duties and assisting patients with expediting new patient scheduling by reviewing the Epic referral WQ daily. Assist physicians and all team members in managing all patient-related affairs and act as a patient liaison by fielding questions, scheduling appointments, and arranging for hospital admissions. Expediting patient needs, administrative duties, calendaring, academic duties, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience working in a large healthcare organization.

  • Prior scheduling experience.

  • Experience with patient check-in/check-out and cash handling.

  • Experience with insurance and authorization.

  • Demonstrated computer skills and basic knowledge of Microsoft (Outlook and Word).

  • Possess excellent customer service skills both in person and over the phone.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of oncology.

  • Epic trained.

  • Bilingual - English/Spanish.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work weekends/holidays based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $54,664 - $67,944 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.18 - $32.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
