Position Description
Under general direction, the warehouse specialist participates in and oversees the district's warehouse, receiving and mailroom operations. Performs a variety of record keeping and inventory control functions.
Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee and participate in the receiving and inspection of incoming shipments.
- Check the receipts for proper condition and to assure compliance with purchase order requirements.
- Analyze and resolve issues related to the warehouse and mail room. Identify and report back orders, shortages, damages, and other discrepancies. Complete necessary clerical functions to facilitate prompt payment, accountability and discrepancy resolution. Maintain necessary files of purchase orders, delivery receipts and associated documents.
- Label, mark or affix asset tags to equipment, utilizing a predetermined identification system, and record the asset numbers on the receiving document or in the computer terminal.
- Organizes and coordinates the selection and utilization of freight carriers. Prepare packages of goods for shipment or return shipment to various destinations.
- Monitors incoming and outgoing mail system. Pick-up and deliver packages, U.S. Mail, or inter-office mail at various locations on and off campus.
- Operate a variety of office and warehouse equipment, such as personal computers, automated mail machine, pallet jack, forklift and delivery vehicles.
- Load and unload various delivery vehicles.
- Oversee the daily cleaning and maintain the warehouse in a safe, secure, and clean working environment.
- Assist in the training and provide work direction to warehouse staff to supplement established schedules and routines.
- Plans, coordinates and monitors the collection, storage and sale of surplus property.
- Manages file system. Perform a variety of data entry functions, related to daily operations, using a computer terminal.
- Assist in the annual inventories of stored material and fixed assets.
- Perform other warehouse duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year warehouse experience.
- Valid California driver's license, safe driving record and ability to obtain a forklift operator’s certificate.
- Knowledge of:
- Modern warehousing systems and procedures including methods of proper and orderly storage, shipping and receiving, storage and issuance of stored materials, stock inventory procedures and space utilization.
- Health and Safety regulations related to warehouse operations.
- Oral and written communications skills.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Record keeping techniques.
- Technical aspects of field of specialty.
- Ability to:
- Make mathematical calculations.
- Oversee the maintenance of stock control systems, physical inventory and determination of minimum/maximum stock levels.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Schedule work supplemental to predetermined schedules and work patterns.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Perform physical labor.
- Meet timelines and schedules.
- Assist in the training and scheduling of others.
- Operate machines and equipment involved in warehouse operations, including computer terminal, pallet jack, delivery vehicles and obtain a forklift operator’s certification.
- Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Additional years of experience in warehousing or supply.
- Certification or training in forklift operation.
- Experience in the use of bar code inventory systems.
Additional Information
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Working hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm
- Environment:
- Warehouse environment, indoor/outdoor, subject to insurability by district's liability insurance carrier.
- Physical Abilities:
- Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling heavy objects, bending at the waist, reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally, standing for extended periods of time, walking, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various machines and equipment to perform warehouse operations, hearing and speaking to exchange information, seeing to verify accuracy of orders.
- Hazards:
- Driving a vehicle during adverse weather conditions.
- Handling hazardous chemicals.

This is a full-time, 12-month, classified bargaining unit position located at the Rancho Cucamonga Campus. Start date: as soon as possible. Range 17 of the CSEA Salary Schedule with starting salary of Step A, $4,906/month.
