Job Description

The part-time adjunct instructor for Human Services Technology will be a member of a diverse team that will teach a variety of courses including online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses to undergraduate students. The instructors will prepare course syllabi and teaching materials and grade students’ performance. Instructors will teach courses based on assigned course descriptions and learning objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
  • Master’s degree or higher and 18 graduate hours in a human services field (social work, counseling, rehabilitation studies, therapeutic recreation, substance abuse counseling, gerontology) Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Knowledge and experience with online learning management systems.
  • Direct work experience with online learning management systems.
  • Availability for training and supervision.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Schedule flexibility for day and evenings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and Zoom presentation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferrred:
  • Three years or more of college teaching experience.
  • Experience and/or online teaching certification.
  • Experience training and/or supervising entry level human services professionals.
  • Availability to teach synchronous and in-person courses one day or evening per week.

Essential Duties

Essential Duties : Along with other duties as assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the program coordinator and approved by the department chair and dean.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
  • Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACS-approved competencies.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance, grade reports, roll books, etc.
  • Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.
  • Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.
  • Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.
  • Assist with the development of new programs in the area of expertise.
  • Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.
  • Keep abreast of current technology.
  • Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings as required for part-time employees.
  • Foster a safe and all inclusive learning environment for all students and colleagues.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
  • Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated practice of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and among your team, as well as experience working in a diverse environment.

 

Human Services Course Instructions:
  • Serves as Human Services Content expert for assigned curriculum courses to design and update.
  • Actively engages with students providing best practices for coaching and career mentoring.
  • Creates and implements engaging instructional videos, lectures, and teaching activities that are applicable to current practices and trends in human services topics and service delivery.
  • Adheres to clinical and ethical standards of institution, industry, and licensing/credentialing boards.
  • Teaches assigned courses that may be in a multi-modal (live instructions is in-person and online simultaneously) and asynchronous formats.
