This position will have a dual reporting line with the IU Bloomington Senior Human Resources Director and will actively participate as part of a team in strategic planning and HR development initiatives for the campus.

Job Summary


 

The HR Director (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning HR objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added services to management and employees that reflect the operational objectives of the school. It maintains an effective level of operational literacy about the school's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture, and its organizational needs.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Consults with all management levels, offers guidance on HR and university policies and practices where appropriate.
  • Analyzes departmental HR trends and metrics to deliver strategic and impactful solutions for senior leadership.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues, including those related to FMLA, ADA/RA, Performance Improvement Plans, and Corrective Action, ensuring investigations are effective, thorough, and objective.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of legal requirements for employee management to mitigate legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management support to line managers, including coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions. Leads departmental initiatives for Performance at IU programming.
  • Collaborates with management and employees to enhance workplace relationships, morale, productivity, and retention, and leads departmental initiatives for MyVoice at IU engagement programming.
  • Conducts compensation analysis and offers recommendations based on internal equity, external wage data, and university-wide benchmarks, serving as the departmental expert on compensation policies, practices, and programs.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor to other positions within the department and across the campus HR community.
  • Directly supervises three positions, guiding work assignments and setting performance expectations.

General Responsibilities

  • Utilizes and applies in-depth HR body of knowledge and skills to provide strategic guidance for HR related matters like salary administration, hiring, training, policy interpretation, unit restructures, workforce planning, etc.
  • Resolves and provides solutions to the most complex employee relations issues with continued partnership, counsel, and support from COEs.
  • Develops, implements, and drives recruiting strategies to meet current and/or anticipated staffing needs.
  • Coaches and partners with leaders to create actionable plans for improving leadership effectiveness and continuous improvement for employee engagement.
  • Provides strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on complex issues to leaders and managers to ensure alignment and consistency across the University.
  • Provides advice to leadership for development in support of a strong human capital strategy.
  • Collaborates with HR COEs to roll out and support University wide initiatives, ensure client's needs are understood and met, and deliver change management interventions.
  • Partners to create and execute on ensuring an environment of diversity and inclusion.

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in multiple HR disciplines or related

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary


 

$85,000 - $95,000 per year based on experience and internal equity.

Work Hours

Monday - Friday (standard IU schedule is 8am - 5pm EST); however, schedule at times will be dependent on different community and engagement events and/or obligations.
