Job Description
The University of Missouri-Kansas City is looking for a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to play an essential role in supporting our senior leaders, managers, and employees. The HRBP serves as a strategic and trusted advisor, supports an inclusive and dynamic culture and workforce, and pursues continuous improvement through knowledge, collaboration, and leadership. Acting as an interface between the College, Schools, and Divisions (CSDs) and the Office of Human Resources, your role will be to provide high quality, business focused and strategic level advice, guidance, and support. The HRBPs report centrally to the Office of Human Resources and will be assigned to units dedicated to education, research, service, engagement, student success, and University operations. As part of the Office of Human Resources, HRBPs can expect to work with an engaging, highly collaborative, and supportive team of HR professionals.
You will serve as the primary departmental resource for counsel and assist in the execution of HR programs and processes relative to workforce planning and design, recruiting and onboarding, career development and performance management, employee relations, , compensation and classification , HR programs and policy implementation, and organizational effectiveness, culture, and change management execution. Duties include but are not limited to:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understands goals, objectives, and priorities of assigned College, School, or Division; identifying how HR can support and help drive business and organizational goals. Uses data to help identify areas for improvement and drive progress.
- Supports unit workforce planning & design by evaluating both current and future staffing needs in coordination with leadership through utilization of data analytics around forecasting and planning for staffing needs.
- Assists and guides managers to finalize hiring needs and collaborates with recruiters to fill campus vacancies; may participate in the interviewing and negotiations process.
- Drives CSD accountability for providing an engaging onboarding experience to set employees up for success.
- Oversees performance review/appraisal process, including training and communication with employees and managers.
- Recommends training or professional development in consultation with specialist and facilitates succession planning discussions to build people pipeline.
- Implements, communicates, and ensures compliance with Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations to mitigate risk.
- Advises managers on employee relations matters such as coaching employee behavior and discipline, referring to senior management when appropriate and consulting with specialist when appropriate. Participates in disciplinary procedures and develops appropriate supporting documents, including investigations and related summaries.
- Proactively identifies and creatively problem solves to address workplace conflict.
- Collaborates as an inclusive and enthusiastic team player with the HR team and assigned CSDs to promote employee engagement and a positive work environment.
- Partners with managers and Compensation and Classification Specialist to conducts job audits, compensation analysis and Position Classification Questionnaire (PCQ) completion; including requests for pay changes.
- Identifies and implements workflow changes and process improvements to current HR programs and processes.
- Advises leadership on change management & organizational effectiveness opportunities, methods, and tools.
Maintains electronic and physical employment files and updates them in real time to comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. - As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University.
This position will be eligible for hybrid remote work after initial training period.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
- 5 years of HR generalist or strategic partner experience.
- Considerable knowledge of HR legal and regulatory requirements, HR trends and leading practices.
- Successful experience showing an ability to build relationships, exercise good judgment, work in stressful and fast fast-paced environments, and solve problems collaboratively.
- Ability to provide professional and compliant feedback to all levels of the university including Executive and Senior staff.
- Experience using data to drive decisions
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in an effective, positive manner with mangers and individual contributors in a team environment.
- Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
- HR Certification
Anticipated Hiring Range
Up to $65,000 commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity
Full-time, benefit eligible. This position will be eligible for hybrid remote work after initial training period.
