Job Summary

Purpose:
As the Assistant HR Director, you will oversee day-to-day HR operations within the business school, ensuring effective delivery of services to a diverse staff. Reporting to the HR Director, you will supervise two Staff HR Managers and the HR Assistant, ensuring the consistent application of HR policies and procedures. A key responsibility in this role is serving as the HR lead for units led by chief officers, where you will act as the HR Manager for approximately 100 staff members. You will collaborate with senior leadership to address complex HR issues and partner with the Talent Management Specialist to drive performance management, employee recognition, and staff development initiatives. Responsibilities*

Staff HR Operations Management (60%)

  • Oversee HR operations for 425 staff and hiring for over 1,200 temporary staff.
  • Serve as the HR lead for three units led by chief officers, acting as the HR Manager for approximately 100 staff members, providing direct support for HR-related matters, policy implementation, and employee development initiatives within these units.
  • Manage hiring, compensation, onboarding, performance, and employee relations. Supervise two HR Managers and one Assistant.
  • Partner with senior leaders, ensure compliance, and implement HR best practices
  • Guide compensation and support HR programs for staff development and recognition.

HR Process and Procedure Development (15%)

  • Ensure HR processes are well-documented, clear, and accessible.
  • Lead initiatives to streamline HR operations and improve efficiency.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations to ensure consistency.
  • Identify automation opportunities and system enhancements to support HR operations and improve data accuracy.


Leadership and Strategic Partnership (10%)

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the HR Director and senior leadership, providing insights on workforce planning and organizational development.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, participate in strategic HR planning, and act as a liaison between the business school and central HR, representing staff HR needs.


Employee Relations and Compliance (10%)

  • Provide expert guidance on employee relations, managing complex issues like performance plans, grievances, and disciplinary actions
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, policies, and agreements.
  • Advise unit leaders on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Handle sensitive employee relations cases with discretion and professionalism.


Other Responsibilities (5%)

  • Manage special projects from the HR Director focused on process improvement, staff development, or organizational change.
  • Collaborate with central HR and other departments for policy alignment and compliance.
  • Stay updated on HR laws, university policies, and best practices to ensure the business school's HR practices remain compliant and competitive.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Eight (8) years of human resources experience, including experience in staff HR management and overseeing HR business partner operations
  • Experience working with senior level leaders, in a highly matrixed, and complex environment., and providing HR consultation at a strategic level
  • Expertise implementing HR programs across diverse departments and teams
  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience leading HR process improvement plans
  • Experience managing HR staff as direct reports
  • Previous work experience in work authorization processes
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws

Modes of Work

Additional Information

The posting range for this position is $85,600 - $115,550. This posting range reflects multiple factors involved in determining compensation, such as skills, experience, training, certifications, and other organizational needs. At Ross, it is not common for new hires to be offered a salary at the upper end of the range. Compensation decisions are based on the details of each situation.
