The School of Business and Professional Studies is seeking applicants for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Business Administration, specializing in Finance to start August 2025. This position is for full-time appointment on a nine-month contract. This is a unique opportunity to teach in a business program in a public liberal arts setting at an institution that is nationally recognized for the quality of its teaching and students. Truman is looking for field-specific expertise accompanied by an ability to teach to students following a broad range of pathways in the liberal arts and sciences. Successful candidates will be excited by the opportunity to engage in intentional collaborative research and curricular and co-curricular experiences across programs, departments, and schools. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach undergraduate finance courses and develop curriculum that prepares students for success in the rapidly evolving world of business and finance. Scholarly activity and output appropriate to rank is expected consistent with the teacher-scholar model and to maintain faculty qualifications under AACSB standards. Additional duties include advising, mentoring students, and providing service to the department, school, and university.
Department and Program: The newly created Department of Business and Economics at Truman State University offers undergraduate majors in business administration, accounting, and economics and a master’s degree in accounting. Business administration majors choose at least one concentration in finance, marketing, management, or international business. The Department has 19 full-time faculty members with a variety of specialties to support our programs. We also offer minors in business, accounting, economics, and entrepreneurship and a business analytics certificate. The business and accounting programs hold both business and accounting accreditation from Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, the premier global accreditation body. The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region. In addition to being the home of Truman, Kirksville is the birthplace of osteopathic medicine and features a medical school, dental school and community college, and the Kirksville School District is consistently recognized for academic excellence. The community takes pride in several annual events including the Red, White and Blue Festival and the FLATS Trail Half-Marathon. The charming downtown area features an arts center, as well as several local shops and restaurants. Required Qualifications
Qualifications: The position requires a Ph.D. or D.B.A. or equivalent doctoral level degree(s) in Finance or a closely related field completed by the August 2025 start date (ABD considered with an expected completion date within one calendar year beginning at appointment).
Applicants will be evaluated based on academic qualifications; evidence and/or demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness in finance; ability to teach other courses in the department; commitment to student success and development; sustained professional and academic engagement activities necessary to maintain scholarly academic or practice academic status; strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills; a commitment to the liberal arts and sciences as a teacher-scholar; and compatibility with department needs.
