Our paid internship program is thoughtfully curated to provide students with experience and exposure to the healthcare industry. Interns will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real work projects, build meaningful relationships and connections within the organization, and experience our mission and enterprise goals through our program curriculum centered on our leadership model (Personal, People, Thought, and Results Leadership). Our Summer 2025 Internship is June 9th or June 16th through August 15th, 2025.

As an intern at Blue Shield of California, you will:
- Participate in impactful projects during a 10-week internship program
- Undertake a 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the healthcare industry, and more
- Be invited to participate in BSC employee events and networking opportunities such as Employee Resource Groups, employee volunteer activities, and more
General Requirements:
- Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship
- Hybrid requirements - Preferably live within a 50-mile radius of a BSC office and be available for in-office collaboration 2 times per month
- Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
Your Role
The Information Technology team oversees our data & analytics, strategic planning & performance, IT infrastructure services, IT shared services, IT applications, and information security functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield of CA. IT is a business partner that provides delivery excellence and leverages technology advancement to ensure Blue Shield is an information-led organization, in a secure, connected healthcare ecosystem. The UX Research Intern will report to the Director of UX Research & Product Design, Health Innovation. In this role you will gain hands-on experience across the full UX/UI design process by conducting research to gain insight into user needs and behaviors, and translating research findings into meaningful product insights, personas, journey maps or digital mockups to help simplify complex heathcare tools and processes.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Utilize a wide range of skillsets across the User Experience design spectrum - from user research, to data analysis, to storytelling through UX deliverables such as personas, user journey maps, etc.
- Asist in the development and execution of user studies -- interviews, surveys, usability studies, PURE Assessments, etc.
- Tackle complex and often opaque problems, and help establish a process for solving them
- Being part of a team to develop deliverables and achieve goals together
- Learn how to create presentation reports to senior leadership
- Work to amplify the voice of our users
- Mature and expand your skillsets with the mentorship and guidance of Sr. Designers on the Health Innovation team
Your Knowledge and Experience
- In pursuit of bachelor's or master's degree with an emphasis on User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction or relevant degree
- 1+ years of related professional experience, project, or coursework
- Experience providing user research support, preferred
- Experience with Figma or Userzoom, a plus
- Experience in UI and Visual design, a plus
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $25.00 to $30.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
