Student Learning ResourcesGeneral Summary
As a Peer Tutor, your main role in the Student Learning Resources (SLR) department is to observe and respond to customer issues by facilitating problem-solving strategies adapted to the visitors’ needs. Peer Tutors assist and coach other students in becoming a more successful and independent learner. Peer Tutors provide and help integrate effective learning and study strategies, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments, and material.
Specific Position Duties
• Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to students and community users.
• Create and maintain a tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and SLR Department.
• Make appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments or professionals, when necessary.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of each tutoring session.
• Attend and complete tutor training and development sessions.
• Develop a good understanding and knowledge of college services, supports, and resources.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship.
• Passion for helping others and ability to instruct in a “hands-off” manner, allowing users to learn by doing.
• Ability to keep composure and focus while maintaining constructive and positive interactions.
• Friendly demeanor that projects accessibility and tenacity to problem-solve with the student or community user, rather than for them.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Must demonstrate proficiency in a specific subject via transcripts.
