Essential Job Duties
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Energy Data Analyst to join our ever growing team. This position will play a critical role in supporting campus energy management initiatives. The ideal candidate will be skilled and enthusiastic about analyzing energy and water data to drive cost-saving measures and sustainable practices. By performing detailed statistical analysis, preparing reports, and collaborating with campus personnel, you will help identify actionable opportunities for energy and water conservation. Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
- Analyze energy and water data to identify trends, outliers, and cost-saving opportunities
- Prepare clear and concise reports on energy and water consumption to support cost avoidance initiatives
- Perform energy cost accounting and statistical analysis to uncover inefficiencies
- Collaborate with campus personnel and utility companies to resolve utility discrepancies and consumption inconsistencies
- Support external benchmarking and the measurement and verification of conservation measures
- Conduct life cycle cost analysis and cash flow projections for pilot conservation projects
- Develop and publish regular reports on energy and water consumption trends and costs
- Interface with campus utility customers to address billing questions and provide insights
- Report performance outcomes of energy and water conservation projects to management and regulatory agencies
- Develop and publish periodic campus energy and water consumption and cost trend reports
- Periodically interface with campus utility customers on billing questions and investigations
- Report to campus management and regulatory agencies on periodic energy and water conservation project performance, including measurement and verification reporting
- Design an application to perform measurement and verification for an Energy Savings Performance Contract by creating time-series data queries from our data historian and generating formatted outputs for QA/QC in final reporting
- Perform frequent ad-hoc data queries to identify and interpret anomalies, determining if they stem from metering errors, communication issues, or building performance, using data from sources such as the data historian, utility billing software, and utility provider portals to enhance reporting, visualization, and insights into campus energy performance and utilization
Other Responsibilities
- Participate in NC State’s Campus Environmental Sustainability Team working groups
- Participate in UNC system sponsored energy & water conservation initiatives
- Represent NC State at professional meetings and conferences as resources allow
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree and at least one year of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree with at least two years’ of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Other Required Qualifications
- Strong interest in energy economics and finance
- Proficient in quantitative, analytical, and statistical methods
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team, with an emphasis on achieving common goals in a small office environment
- Deep understanding of organizational structure and relationships for effective problem-solving
- Skilled in verbal and written communication, translating complex information for various audiences and choosing appropriate formats for presenting findings and recommendations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in analyzing and presenting utility and energy data, auditing industrial and commercial energy and water bills, knowledge of electric and natural gas tariffs, emerging energy efficiency trends, participation in energy audits, and proficiency in energy conversion calculations
