This is an internal posting open only to employees within the UC San Diego Health - Information Services department.
This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Center Drive and remote.
The Virtual Care Technical Lead oversees the Telemedicine portfolio of technology to ensure the schedules, scope and performance requirements are met. Performs strategic surveillance to ensure need and requirements across Telemedicine Workflows are aligned. Manages continuous improvement for suite of technical products that support Virtual Care.
Responsibilities include:
- Works closely with UCSDH clinical units, and operational sponsors to identify, scope and prioritize the technical needs of the Telehealth Program.
- Creates solid partnerships; helps define and manage key stakeholder requirements. Communicates regularly with clinical leadership through real-time cascades to address issues and provide education.
- Oversees entire Telehealth development life cycle; capable of designing plans for complex tasks for projects, managing change control needs and identifying and leveraging resources from multiple technical teams.
- Works with Leadership to identify pricing/budget and purchasing for Telehealth needs. Creates 390s and works with finance to turn into Pos.
- Ensures appropriate Telehealth Technical governance is in place (e.g. project steering committee, intake, change control board.)
- Effectively manages cross-discipline project/optimization teams of 5-15.
- Provide hands on leadership and subject matter expertise to teams for large complex Telehealth Projects.
- Regularly reviews status of Technology under his/her control and ensures successful prioritization/implementation and education of new functionality across multiple vendors (EPIC, Martti, Doximity, Zoom, Jamf, etc). Understands, anticipates, and influences customer demand for services and ensures that delivery entities are capable to fulfill the demand.
- Creates KB Articles to inform the Service Desk of Virtual Care Workflows and Troubleshooting steps
- Engages in Vendor Management for Doximity, EPIC and Martti. (expand)
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills; collaborative leadership style.
- Mentors analysts from multiple departments with a focus on Telemedince. Regularly liaises with Ambulatory, Cadence, PB, Analytics, MyChart, Ancillary Apps and PHSO for alignment and transparency.
- Presents at Meetings and Summits about UCSD Virtual Care.
- Completes Build Across Ambulatory, MyChart, Integration and Telemedicine EPIC applications to support Virtual Care Workflows.
- Works with MDM team to create requirements for Virtual Care Workflows
- Leads testing efforts for new virtual care projects and optimizations.
- Takes point for Telemedicine Escalations, and supports 250,000+ Virtual Visits per year, including regular on-call.
- Provides Consultation to UCOP Virtual Care Collaborative on a portfolio of Virtual Care Projects.
- Liaises with other UC sites to improve process and identify best practices
- Eleven (11) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus seven (7) years of related experience/training. Related experience: managing implementation of large technical projects and Telehealth (Telehealth development life cycle and Epic Video Visits using Epic's native solution).
Certification in MyChart, Patient Entered Data or related EPIC Modules
Jamf 200 Certification and Experience with Mobile Device Management
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $128,800 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $61.69 - $120.79
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
