This mid-grade position will require the candidate to hold a Secret Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities:

This individual will work with a team of engineers and technicians to develop, test, and deliver uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) to meet defined and derived system performance requirements. Specific development includes software related to component, subsystem, and system integration, and operations of the UUV systems.

Software development focus:

  • Develop and refine user interface and control of various components and sensors integrated on the UUVs.
  • Develop and optimize UUV behaviors to accomplish assigned tasks while maximizing opportunities for payload integration and operation.
  • Develop user-interfaces for efficient operations, and improved data presentation.
  • Optimize existing code (C/C++, Java, MatLab and Python).
  • Create engineering documentation for task deliveries.

Embedded systems focus:

    • Redesigning circuit boards, reprogramming microcontrollers and FPGAs.
    • Researching and integrating higher performance, smaller, lower-power components.

Testing involves working onboard small boats and ships, launching and recovering systems at-sea, and post-test analysis of data. Reporting includes providing results from post-test data analysis into official reports or briefing material. Most development and testing will be conducted in San Diego; however, engineers may occasionally travel in support of testing and/or operations in other locations both in the U.S. and abroad and may spend multiple days at-sea.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in Primary Responsibility areas.
  • Experience working in teams to develop solutions, deliver products, and test and evaluate performance.
  • Experience and skill analyzing experiment data to determine results as feedback into the development cycle.
  • Strong technical writing skills to provide input to technical reports and briefing material.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Currently holds a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor of Science (+4 years of relevant experience) or Master of Science (+2 years of relevant experience) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded systems, including electronic hardware implementation/testing and software programming
  • Possess C/C++ language programming fluency
  • Programming experience with
    • Digital Signal Processing
    • Field-Programmable Gate Arrays
    • Microcontrollers
