Mountain Gateway Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. The Welding Instructor and Program Head at Mountain Gateway Community College holds a crucial position in overseeing the Welding program including credit offerings through the department of Academic Affairs and noncredit FastForward offerings through the department of Workforce Solutions and Community Education. This individual serves as the lead instructor and is responsible for a range of duties, including supervising and supporting adjunct faculty, reviewing and developing program curriculum, defining program objectives and student learning outcomes, leading the MGCC Welding Program Advisory Committee, and assisting with the development of the Welding schedule. With their dedication and commitment to excellence, the Welding Instructor and Program Head ensures that students receive the highest quality education in Welding. This position will support offerings at both the Main Campus in Clifton Forge and the Wilson Workforce Center in Buena Vista.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- 5 years full-time employment in a welding environment
- Welding skills in all positions using multiple processes
- Ability to pass a AWS welder qualification test
- Welding teaching experience
- Supervisory experience
KSA’s
- Ability to review, analyze, and communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to lead collaboratively and build strategic relations with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs
- Strong commitment to create an environment that fosters diversity & inclusion
- Demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom and lab setting
- Effective communication
- Excellent interpersonal skills with evidence of successful work experience as a team member
- Associate degree or higher in Welding or a related field in Advanced Manufacturing
- Pipe welding Experience
- AWS and/or NCCER Certifications.
- OSHA Outreach Trainer
