Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

This Full Time (100% FTE ) advisor position provides academic advising and student support, and also promotes retention and graduation rates of undergraduate students in the Real Estate Built Environment (REBE) and Real Estate Development (RDEV) minor, along with the undergraduate Architecture majors: Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science programs (BS). This position reports to and works with the Director of Student Services. In addition to conducting academic advising for undergraduate students in REBE and the RDEV minor and the Architecture BA and BS program, The Advisor steps in when needed to assist with recruitment for all MAPP programs and all MAPP advising. The Advisor promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity in student services.
The Advisor will teach one one credit UNIV 100 course in the Fall semester, which is a class focused on student life skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Academic/ Advising for REBE undergraduate Program and RDEV minor and Architecture BA and BS programs.
  • Advising duties for all undergraduate programs.
  • Works with the MRED Director to launch the REBE major.
  • Provides comprehensive academic advising for students enrolled in undergraduate majors
  • Processes degree audits and clearances for undergraduate majors and minors.
  • Maintains all electronic records for undergraduate majors and minors, using UMD’s TerpEngage system.
  • Generates reports when requested.
  • Advises undergraduate majors during first time freshmen and transfer student orientations.
  • Assists with conducting workshops and presentations pertaining to undergraduate advising.
  • Assists when needed with career services advising.
  • Teach one UNIV 100 section. The course content is already developed, and can be adjusted in collaboration with the Director of Student Services. UNIV 100 is a course all new UMD undergraduates take (freshman and transfers) to help support their transition to the campus and to University life.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:
  • 3 years or more of professional experience working in a higher education setting required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, professional presentation software and/or database usage, along with knowledge of or ability to learn SIS, TerpEngage, and other student services systems is needed.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and a problem solver.
  • Strong customer service, maturity, good judgment, and one who can work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Possess enthusiasm and a positive approach to work, excellent rapport with students, and a commitment to their educational development.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends if needed and to travel for recruitment if needed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with MAPP+D faculty, staff, and with representatives from across campus.
  • Possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of academic advising experience or equivalent.
  • Experience in Student Services-related role at UMD.
  • Knowledge of campus degree requirements and campus advising systems.

Additional Information:

Salary range $51,371-$55,650.
