The University of Notre Dame is seeking a passionate Network Engineer to join the Office of Information Technology (OIT). In this role, you’ll play a vital role in growing our infrastructure, ensuring seamless and secure network connectivity for our vibrant community of faculty, staff, and students.
Our Wireless First initiative has our team implementing WiFi 6e and mGig switching campus-wide across approximately 125 buildings. This project will have us deploying 11,000 access points and over 1100 switches. Future plans include upgrading the core and distribution network infrastructure to support 100G connectivity to desktops, enhancing capabilities for research activities.
Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:
- Be the backbone of our network infrastructure, managing and configuring both wired and wireless systems.
- Maintain peak network performance through troubleshooting and resolving network-related incidents.
- Support departmental network platforms, including Cisco Catalyst Center, Identity Services Engine, and Application Centric Infrastructure.
- Collaborate with colleagues to identify and implement network improvements.
- Participate in semi-monthly network duty officer rotations, providing on-call support.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest networking technologies through continuous learning.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 5 years of relevant IT experience.
- Expertise in Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking technologies, with a focus on Cisco solutions.
- Strong knowledge of 802.11 WLAN technologies, preferably with Aruba experience.
- Familiarity with Data Center technologies, with a focus on Cisco offerings.
- Knowledge of Firewalls, VPNs, LTM and DHCP/DNS/IPAM platforms.
- Database management skills for supporting network infrastructure platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications like CCNA, CWNP, or Aruba Certified Campus Access Associate (ACA).
- Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco Identity Services Engine, Aruba Clearpass, Cisco ASA/Palo Alto firewalls, and F5 Big-IP load balancing.
- Proficiency in scripting languages for network automation.
- A passion for learning and staying current with evolving technologies.
