Position Summary:
The STEM Scholars Program Assistant will provide year-round support services to students in the WCC STEM Scholars program in support of the College’s efforts to increase student persistence, retention, certificate/degree completion and successful transfer to 4-year institutions of STEM students. This person will work closely with students in the program focused on retention management, outreach and intervention. In addition, this person will work closely with the STEM team to help facilitate STEM activities, workshops, and events.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Hours/Schedule:
This is a part time position that will work up to 25 hours per week. Includes occasional weekends and week nights for special events.
Physical Demands:

This person will work closely with students in the program focused on retention management, outreach and intervention. In addition, this person will work closely with the STEM team to help facilitate STEM activities, workshops, and events.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Track and monitor academic progress toward degree attainment and complete enrollment verification paperwork.
- Regular communications with students, faculty, and staff through various means such as e-mail, phone calls, classroom visits, face-to-face, and virtual conversations.
- Assist students in accessing support services, on-campus or within the community.
- Facilitate targeted interventions and soft skill workshops, such as time management to assist students in academic goal achievement.
- Record notes of student interactions, referrals, resources, and interventions as applicable.
- Support STEM Scholars activities, events, and initiatives.
- Prepare monthly STEM newsletter.
- Gather important data and help to prepare reports as directed by supervisor.
- Perform organization and inventory of STEM materials both on campus and online.
- Promote events and activities including through the use of social media.
- Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.

- The position requires long periods of sitting, standing, reading and writing, listening and speaking.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Associate degree in math and science or other related fields.
- High level of energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to be innovative and creative.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize work, handle multiple tasks, and meet timelines in a multi-project environment.
- Experience working with diverse student populations including first-generation, low income and under-represented individuals.
- Ability to properly handle confidential materials.
- Experience with data tracking and preparing reports.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proficient in use Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and database systems.
- Must be able to effectively manage high stress student issues and concerns.
- Must be comfortable with public speaking. interpersonal and writing skills to deal effectively with various college and community public.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Human Services or other related fields.
