Here’s how you will support our mission
The Assistant Professor of Agriculture, as part of the Life Sciences Department within the School of Math, Science, and Engineering at Columbia Basin College, plays a critical role in advancing the College’s mission to inspire, educate, and support students in their pursuit of academic and career success. This position will focus on developing and teaching agriculture courses that align with the program goals, which include identifying and describing crop varieties, pests, diseases, and weeds from planting through harvesting; articulating and demonstrating proper safety procedures in all aspects of crop production; demonstrating proper use of production equipment and maintenance; utilizing precision techniques in crop production and irrigation; and describing agriculture business and marketing. The Assistant Professor will mentor students, contribute to curriculum development, and collaborate with colleagues and industry partners to ensure the program stays current with industry trends and workforce needs. In addition, they will engage in outreach and community engagement efforts to recruit and retain students while maintaining a student-centered approach that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will also foster an inclusive learning environment, encouraging student achievement, and participate in professional development to stay up to date on advancements in the agriculture field.
This position reports to the Dean for Math, Science & Engineering
The salary range for this position is $77,693-$81,624 for a 176-day contract over the Instructional Year (Fall/Winter/Spring Quarters). Additional compensation may be available for assignment of summer quarter courses or courses taught outside of the full-time position during fall, winter and spring quarters. This position is in a hard to fill discipline eligible for additional money per MOU 002 – Hard to Fill Supplemental Pay and would receive an additional stipend of $5,950. This is not a guarantee of compensation and is subject to funding.
Relocation expenses are part of the employment offer for the successful candidate if the candidate relocates to the Tri-Cities area from outside of a 175-mile radius.

Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Crop Science, Agriculture or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university or equivalent industry experience (any combination of related education and industry experience can substitute for the degree requirement on a year for year basis);
- Experience with computer applications for instructional purposes (e.g. PowerPoint, Word and the internet); and
- Demonstrated experience or commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in professional or educational settings, particularly in relation to Hispanic and underserved communities. This includes personal and professional efforts to address challenges faced by these populations and advocate for their success.
- One (1) year of college-level teaching experience or three (3) years of full-time high school teaching; Adjunct experience may qualify;
- Experience working in Production Agriculture including precision agriculture, crop production, and agriculture machinery;
- Experience with eLearning techniques and modalities such as web-supported courses, hybrid courses, or other distance learning applications;
- Experience facilitating laboratory experiences for students involving agriculture production on agricultural fields and greenhouse facilities;
- Experience facilitating undergraduate research experiences; and
- Bilingual in English and in Spanish.

This is a bargaining unit position represented by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Compensation and benefits are subject to the collective bargaining process. There will be paid comprehensive onboarding and training beginning August 1, 2025, but the contract for this position begins on September 1, 2025. This is a tenure track position and will begin the three-year tenure process in fall quarter 2025. More information about the tenure process can be found in Chapter 28B.50 RCW governing Washington State Community and Technical Colleges.
Successful candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Provide proof of lawful permanent residency or other appropriate work authorization as required by the Immigration Reform Control Act of 1986.
- Disclose any substantiated findings or any ongoing investigations related to sexual misconduct as required by RCW 28B.112.080.
- Pass a criminal background check. Note: information learned during the criminal background check will not necessarily preclude employment but may be a factor in eligibility for the position.
- Maintain an alcohol-free and drug-free workplace during employment.
- Verify education at time of hire.
