HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Lead Public Relations Representative will support in overseeing day-to-day public relations activities for SDZWA, leading critical conservation public relations efforts, and ensuring effective communication with key audiences, including the media, the public, and internal stakeholders. This position is responsible for leading and executing key organization initiatives, providing leadership to PR staff, and spearheading the development and delivery of media relations strategies. The Lead Public Relations Representative will act as a primary point of contact for various external communications, supporting the Senior Public Relations Manager in meeting organizational PR goals.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Supervise PR Staff: Lead, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to junior public relations staff, ensuring the timely and effective execution of PR campaigns and initiatives.
- Media Relations: Serve as a primary contact for SDZWA conservation media initiatives. Strategizing story ideas, collaborating with partners, and bringing information to the greater communications teams as a whole. Maintain and strengthen relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets, serving as the lead point of contact for media inquiries and interviews.
- Brand Support: Spearhead the strategy and implementation of earned media and publicity opportunities to enhance the visibility of SDZWA.
- Content Creation: Serve as a critical leader within the communications team to develop and distribute press releases, media advisories, crisis statements and other communication materials.
- Liaison: Represent SDZWA with external media, ensuring consistent messaging and a unified communications strategy.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track media coverage, PR metrics, and assist with evaluating the effectiveness of PR campaigns.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
JOB EXPERIENCE
- 5 years experience in writing, editing, and/or producing content required
- 1+ years supervisory experience required
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree In journalism, communication, public relations, or a related field or equivalent specialized training required
- California driver license required
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to the public relations team, ensuring they are trained and equipped to meet departmental goals and deadlines.
- Support Senior Public Relations manager in assigning tasks and managing workloads to ensure the effective delivery of all public relations initiatives.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts, journalists, and influencers to generate positive media coverage.
- Act as a point of contact for media inquiries, and coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and other media-related events.

- Salary Range: $86,200 to $95,320
