Job Summary
The Senior Director of Merchandise Planning is responsible for driving the strategic direction and execution of merchandise planning processes across all retail channels. This role focuses on achieving financial objectives, including sales and margin, through effective forecasting, business-driving analytics, and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate is a results-oriented leader with strong analytical capabilities and a deep understanding of retail operations, merchandising, and customer behavior.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning
- Develop annual, seasonal, and monthly financial plan in accordance with company goals, historical performance, and trend analysis.
- Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to mitigate risks and maximize opportunities.
- Develop and provide pricing, promotional, and transitional recommended actions.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and develop a high-performing merchandise planning team through mentorship, training, and performance management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, and Supply Chain, to ensure cohesive execution of product strategies.
- Influence decision making with data-driven recommendations.
Analytics & Management
- Leverage data analytics to identify customer trends, and business risks/opportunities.
- Develop and present merchandise performance dashboards and actionable insights to senior leadership.
Technology & Process Optimization
- Evaluate and implement technology solutions to enhance merchandise planning capabilities.
- Identify and drive process improvements to streamline planning workflows and increase efficiency.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Retail Management, or a related field. MBA preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in merchandise planning, retail strategy, or a similar role within the retail industry.
- Proven track record of driving sales growth and operational efficiency through strategic planning.
- Experience managing large, cross-functional teams and budgets.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with expertise in data-driven decision-making.
- Deep knowledge of retail merchandise planning tools and systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or JDA).
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities, with experience influencing executive-level stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of consumer trends.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, collaborative, and results-driven environment.
- Occasional travel to retail locations and regional offices may be required.

The pay ranges outlined below are presented in accordance with state-specific regulations. These ranges may differ in other areas and could be subject to variation based on regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay rates will depend on factors such as position, location, level of experience, and applicable state or local minimum wage laws. If the regulatory minimum wage exceeds the minimum indicated in the pay range below, the regulatory minimum wage will be the minimum rate applied.
$190,800.00 - $286,100.00/ year
