Essential Job Duties

The Career Coaching Coordinator delivers career and professional development counseling/coaching services that include career and academic major exploration, delivery and interpretation of assessments, resume and job/internship search coaching, interviewing preparation, and preparation for admission to graduate school. In addition, the Career Coaching Coordinator will partner with the undergraduate career services team and the employer relations team to develop an internal process to measure and evaluate career center success and student outcomes and identify which technology platforms will support the goals of the center.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Reports to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Career Services
  • Plan, develop, and deliver career development/coaching services for undergraduate students; assessing individual career development needs and providing students with the necessary information to make informed career decisions
  • Teach and advise undergraduate students effectively through one-on-one coaching and group workshops
  • Administer and interpret individual interest, skills, abilities, and values assessment instruments
  • Critique student job/internship search components including resumes, correspondence, and social media profiles and provide actionable feedback
  • Critique student interview skills and provide actionable feedback
  • Collaborate with academic advisors to incorporate career development content into early student orientation courses
  • Collaborate in the development and delivery of college career events including career fairs, etiquette dinners, panel discussions, employer information sessions and other collaborative employer events
  • Research industry trends, employment opportunities, and salary levels to assist students with making career choices
  • Participate in college and university-wide events
  • Collect and analyze career coaching data in a way that will help the center evaluate its effectiveness and point to areas of improvement. This could include: number of career coaching appointments across student demographics, employment outcomes, engagement analytics, professional development programming, participation statistics for on-campus recruiting activities, satisfaction reports from students and employers.
  • Periodically review and benchmark all digital tool subscriptions, evaluating quality, impact, usage, and return on investment.
  • Organize product demos to evaluate and potentially recommend new high-potential products
  • Provide prompt, outstanding customer service to students and staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Department Required Skills


  • Minimum of three years of experience within a university career center or business/industry environment involving career development, talent acquisition, human resources or employment trends
  • Bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience
  • Knowledge of career development theory, career paths, and job-search strategies a plus
  • Skills to use individual and group counseling techniques to assist individuals with career decision and development concerns
  • Knowledge of employment and career planning materials
  • Knowledge of alternative approaches to career development and planning needs for individuals with special needs (handicaps), minorities, older job seekers
  • Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to create reports and visualizations
  • Assist with career center engagement metrics
  • Display creativity, initiative, and positive attitude in carrying out responsibilities.
  • A plus would include in-depth knowledge of career information management systems as they relate to campus interviewing, student/employer/job databases, resume referral, and registering for campus career events

  • Master’s degree in counseling, business administration, student personnel services or related field bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience
