Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides vision and leadership for the Library Services and CLASS in support of the College’s mission and goals.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Maintains policy and procedures for library services and academic student support services. This includes such items as collection development guidelines, effective resource sharing, operations to enhance student learning and effective teaching.
2. Budget expenditures for system-side electronic resources, student and academic support services initiatives.
3. Acts as the official representative and advocate for library and academic student support services within the College and externally.
4. Plans, develops, and delivers high quality library and academic student support services that are accessible to all students.
5. Establish a process of ongoing review, assessment and improvement of programs, resources, and services that will evolve along with student needs and expectations.
6. Participates in the Library Services collection development.
7. Works to enhance faculty academic coaching in CLASS.
8. Coordinates with establishing cross-departmental library and academic student support activities.
9. Gathers and reports data on library and academic student support services.
10. Collaborates closely with librarians and academic success coaches to ensure development of workshops. 
11. Works closely with the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) leads to ensure digital learning objectives are met.
12. Works with department personnel to maintain and report appropriate usage statistics and incorporate into decision-making.
13. Participates in the development and delivery of the LS information literacy instruction and library instructional program.
14. Ensures departmental services meet all accreditation standards, provides reports and represents the college in accreditation compliance.
15. Serves as the lead for establishing and maintaining goals for Institutional Effectiveness.
16. Demonstrates successful strategy execution and leads change.
17. Responsible for the efficient management and direction of the Library Services and CLASS, including operations, budget, supervision, and direction of staff.
18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Academic Innovation & Technology and Provost/VP of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Master’s degree in library science, information science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program
  • 5 to 7 years of professional library experience; experience in library administration and management in higher education, including developing and maintaining partnerships with other libraries and consortia, preferred. 
  • Preference given for demonstrated excellence in applying “user-focused experience” in an education setting.
  • Possess the following skills and attributes: progressive leadership and proactive; strong analytical skills; thorough knowledge of current trends in library and information science management; open educational resources, artificial intelligence, academic coaching, and tutoring. 
  • Possess a deep knowledge of emerging technologies and use of understanding as a foundation for leading the Library Services and the Center for Learning, Academic, and Student Success (CLASS) towards a new vision of serving. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to foster collaborative and productive relationships; ongoing involvement with professional associations and consortia commitment to excellent customer service and positive user experiences. 
  • Experience working with special collection materials and preservation.
Preferred:
  • Doctorate in Library Science. 
  • Strong knowledge of academic libraries and academic student support services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software, streaming applications, and internet applications and customer service oriented. 
  • Knowledge of library services and student support services and methodology.  
  • Self-directed yet flexible team player with the ability to work within a fast-paced environment. 
  • Must work closely with staff, faculty, students to ensure high quality services. 
  • Must be well organized with the ability to set internal goals and meet deadlines. 
  • Strong oral, written communication skills. 
  • Must also posses strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Supervision Exercised
Library Services and the Center for Learning, Academic, and Student Success staff at both campuses.

Supervision Received
The Associate Dean of Library & CLASS services reports directly to the Dean of Academic Innovation & Technology.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment.    
Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.  
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Special Conditions
Immediate supervisor may assign other duties.  
May be required to work outside regular working hours, as needed.
